Urgency in tennis

What mindset can get you or your doubles team off to a quick start in every game?

Try imagining that the score is love -30 when you toss the ball for the first point.

Players often play as if it’s a ‘nice to have it’ point when they should be playing ‘gotta have it’ tennis.

By switching the score mentally, you are more apt to scrap like a junk yard dog and play with more focus and intensity.

It’s a pretty safe bet that not too many teams play frivolously at 0-30. They take more care of the ball, watch it more intently, and still try to own the net.

Another way to heighten focus and urgency is to play practice sets that start at 4-4 where each game begins at 30 all and play no add scoring.

Good luck and be creative in practice.
