The way back

By Mike Hall, February 13, 2016

Taylor had experienced a tumultuous year losing his job and girlfriend. Friends tried to help but, more often than not, he wouldn’t answer the phone. The former football player had lost twenty pounds and knew that the word ‘depressed’ fit him like a glove. After two days of self imposed exile in his apartment, he decided to try something that had worked before. Taylor walked to a nearby park and spread some bird feed on the ground. He smiled as a dozen birds converged for lunch. The next day he returned and placed the treats in his hand not knowing if the birds would respond. Only one had the nerve to land on Taylor’s outstretched arm. A smile came to the young man’s face. It was like his new friend had been sent to brighten his day. Taylor came back each day for a week and soon could feel his old sense of optimism returning. He began gaining weight and going out with friends. Who could ever imagine that a small bird could help Taylor find his way back?
