A recent birthday prompted reflection about the good fortune of all birthdays.
A young brother only celebrated four of them.
Three other siblings no longer have cakes and candles.
Two parents and two in laws have ridden off into the sunset. And maybe that is why these photographs of sunrises and their sisters cast a spell on me. Perhaps the splendor of them is a call to belief….belief that beyond the passing out of sight when our days are done, there is more.
Could it be that the awe we feel at sunrise reverberates deep inside? That it speaks a language that only the soul can comprehend? That it informs with a certainty that there is another sunrise after our last breath.
Our minds have a tough time with this being so absorbed by their own sense of self importance. But what if we stilled the mind at the next sunset….what if we tried to hear the gentle nudging of our soul and listened without clinging to the cell phone or IPad?
Just maybe we’d hear those three words….’there is more,’ and reboot our faith that the little boy of four has seen thousands of suns rise.
How stupendous this rekindled faith that would trust that his world is beyond ours….that his birthday parties never ended….that all of us will one day know that, ‘there is more.’
