It occurred to a very young man that silence….and its twin sister solitude are endangered species.
As the world has accelerated, so too have we.
Often missing is that quiet communion with our souls….where the little things take a back seat as we ponder greater things.
Hecticity (sorry, my word) is like a magnet drawing us this way and that until we plop down at the end of the day….minds still racing like a strobe light at a downtown nightclub.
It’s gotten to the point where quick, shallow breathing is the new normal. It has replaced the contented deep breaths our ancestors knew when sitting on the porch watching fireflies on summer evenings.
Who knows the answer to this dilemma?
Surely, those who do yoga or ones who carve out time each day to meditate feel the difference. They become more in tune with their hearts as the incessant chatter of their brains lessens.
Wise is the one who penned the phrase Silence is Golden.
As Oprah Winfrey has said, ‘Alone time is when I distance myself from the voices of the world so I can hear my own.’
Good luck people….may you recognize hecticity when it rears its ugly head and may you hear the small voice inside that whispers, ‘quiet….please.’
