The View from Above

By Mike Hall, November 20, 2015

It was a picturesque summer day in The Vail Valley.  John, Irwin, and a very much younger cowboy were playing Singletree Golf Course.  Irwin hit his approach shot to the third green and was startled to hear, ‘nice shot and the clapping of hands.’  We looked around and then we saw them.  They were riding in a multi-colored hot air balloon and had a bird’s eye view of Irwin’s terrific shot. It made me wonder what someone riding above us might say as we go through our day. ‘Slow down…forget about that cellphone….it’s more important to get there safe and sound.’  ‘Don’t worry…..these little trifles you’re encountering needn’t throw you out of kilter….just relax and breathe.’  ‘Way to go…..that’s impressive how you handled that missed putt.’  Maybe we should play Singletree in the summer more often….or just imagine that we have it in our power to impress anyone above who might be watching.
