Free at last

There was once a young girl who had a very difficult life.

She made a number of poor choices and hung around with a questionable circle of friends. One day, after hitting rock bottom, the young girl went for a walk. She took a tablet to write down her thoughts.

Soon, it began to rain and the tablet got soaked. When the rain stopped , the forlorn girl sat down and a thought came to her.

She had brought a box of matches with her and now knew the reason why. Tearing away the drenched pages one by one, she made a pile near a wooden bench and set them ablaze with the strike of a match. In her mind, this was a very symbolic act.

One decision to burn away her past and leave it in the dust.

The young girl noticed that there were at least a dozen dry pages left in the lined yellow tablet. She began writing and the words seemed to flow like honey from her pen.

‘I release the old baggage that has kept me down for so long. I see that my old ways and friends of the past helped keep me enslaved in a mediocre or bust state of mind.

Today, with the burning of the past, I begin anew to write a new chapter for my life. I will…day by day, reach for the stars and start creating new dreams that bring the zest back to my life.’

The young girl felt as if a weight had been lifted from her as the pen continued to flow. She realized that there was no sense in looking back or getting stuck like a truck in the muck. From now on, she would take it one day at a time and build the kind of life she could be proud of.

She smiled and thought how fortuitous it was that this all came together…the tablet, the rain, the matches, and the inspiration to move forward like a winner. Many years ago she had savored that inner winner feeling and she knew for certain that it could once again be hers.
