A Lifesaver

Grant graduated yesterday and his parents hosted a terrific party today.

He is heading to Waco, Texas and Baylor University in the fall and will undoubtedly earn his Master’s Degree in Finance by his 25th. birthday.  The young man has it together and is one of the most polite and goal oriented grads you’d ever want to meet.

We were sitting on the beautiful, new back porch that his stepfather Kevin had fashioned when an neighbor  (Gary) motioned to a woman standing nearby.  She appeared to be around thirty-five years old and was holding her young daughter.

Gary said that Grant’s dad (Kevin) had saved the lady’s life when she was eighteen years old.  Jen was in a car with high school friends that flipped over and was, in Kevin’s words, the most horrific accident he’d ever witnessed.  She had a severe head injury, multiple lacerations and twenty broken bones.  Five kids had been ejected from the car and there was at least one fatality and another youngster was paralyzed.

Gary called our paramedic friend a hero.  Kevin said it was not a “hero thing”, it was a “God thing.”

Kevin had crawled into the demolished vehicle and cared for Jen as she was very close to dying herself.

How amazing to see Kevin and Jen just chatting together.

The bond they share surely is heaven sent.

After seventeen years, to hear Kevin talk about that night and how much it means to have

Jen still in his life……it gives new meaning to the word special.
